McKenzie Friend Matt Mitchell
Matt is a former Army soldier and police officer with 30 years of service and a father who has personally experienced the emotional, financial, and legal challenges of the Family Court system.
After separating from his youngest son’s mother, Matt endured false allegations, withheld contact, and years of stressful legal proceedings. He spent his savings on expensive solicitors before finally representing himself as a Litigant in Person. Through perseverance, he successfully secured a Child Arrangements Order, having his son live between two homes, and spend equal time with both parents.
Those turbulent years were life-changing, revealing just how isolating and overwhelming the Family Court process can be for parents. With no prior knowledge of McKenzie Friends or the support they could provide, Matt had to learn everything from scratch, including navigating complex paperwork, defending against false allegations, and handling Non-Molestation Orders and involvement with the police and social services.
Today, that lived experience forms the foundation of Matt's work with the McKenzie Friend UK Network.
Matt has transformed hardship into purpose, retraining and dedicating his life to helping others navigate the same system, ensuring no one must face what he once did alone.
